Laguna Beach Bridge Houses

Laguna Beach bridge houses are very rare but can be found in several locations that included Oak Street in Laguna Beach, California.  What exactly is a bridge house?  A bridge house is a home that is connected by a bridge between the garage and the main entrance to the house.  The garages are located at street level and blend in with homes located on that street.  Behind the garage is a bridge that connects the street level garage to the main part of the house as pictured below.  At the top of Oak Street there are three bridge houses that are built this way and offer a unique way to gain entrance to the home.  These are also some of the most photographed homes in Laguna Beach for their unique architectural design and historic charm.

The most intriguing part of these homes is how the lots are configured.  The assessor's title report map shows that the home extends from the street level and continues beyond the edge of the house which is approximately 150 feet.  Other homes on this street share the same depth to the lot but bridge houses lot lines increase per the width at the end of the bridge and to the entrance of the home similar to an "L" shape lot.  The last time we saw a bridge house come on the market for sale was in 1999 and sold for $685,000.  This was a historic home built in 1940 that offered a vintage architectural style with beveled glass windows, beamed ceilings and built by local architect Carl Abel.  Laguna Beach is filled with many historic homes that offer unique details and charm.  To learn more about buying a home in the Laguna Beach area please contact any our sales agents at 949-355-1622 for immediate customer service.  Below are some current historic homes now available for sale in Laguna Beach.
